Letter from the President of the Board
Friends and collaborators:
One more year, and Almori Foundation has accomplished its mission thanks to your support , donations, time and enthusiasm in addition to the confidence and trust you have given us without hesitating to give us your hand in our effort to improve the life of many Nicaraguans.
Following is a brief recount of some of the achievements and goals we have reached and accomplished:
Education primarily focusing in the formation of values, managing to serve more than 1,500 elementary students and more than 80 educators both in the Municipality of El Crucero and in the Region of Laguna Verde in Matagalpa. We are happy to say that we have sowed the seed that will be fundamental in producing responsible individuals who are committed to their community, families and their environment. The Childhood and the Environment Campaign left positive results because a permanent campaign of recycling began with an ultimate solidarity purpose to donate it to Los Pipitos, in addition, the collected organic matter transformed into an enriched fertilizer was used in school orchards.
Additionally, the task of strengthening skills in reading, writing and basic math was continued with workshops given to educators, which has allowed to keep student’s attendance at a high preventing dissertation and reaching high academic standards, this fact is verifiable through statistics kept at the delegations of the Department of Education in the attended zones.
With the sponsorship of the mentor program it was possible for 3 youngster of academic excellence to complete their high school.
In the prop of survival with the program, Our Daily Bread , it was possible to feed 40 families every Saturday in coordination with the Missionary of Charity, likewise, in coordination with the Franciscans Missionaries in old Highway to León, more than 50 families were reached daily , achieving a healthier nutrition and food relief. Also, during Christmas more than 1000 families and their children were given a Christmas food package as well as the distribution of more than 5,000 toys.
In June we worked hand in hand with the housing project, A Roof For my Country, 14 houses in the region of Sta. Julia in El Crucero where constructed, giving a decent roof to 14 families, mostly women heads of household.
In health we continue with the patronage for Operation Smile, Conanca and the Teletons (with more than 320 children having surgery in 2011), collaborating thus with these organizations to make it possible to reach their proposed goals of care and surgery for this year. In addition, we had the visit of a medical brigade from the Robert Morris University in alliance with Inner Change to attend more than 200 persons in Matagalpa.
All this has been possible thanks to God and you who have trusted in Almori Foundation.
